What are some good ideas for writing a christmas childrens book?

How do i do a double page spread for a childrens book?

This may sound really stupid but how would you paint a double page spread for a childrens book that is to be published. Would i draw the two pages together side by side on one sheet of paper. Or should i draw both pages on to seperate pieces of paper????

It is a well-known childrens book I remember it has like a huge brother and a small sister and they look similiar to like gophers or some kind of small small critter. Many main plot lines are dealing with childhood problems like trick or treating, selfishness or sharing. Main characters look like otters, or a beavers, or gophers, or hamsters.
