Why not just go to Barnes and Noble and flip through them yourself? There are ratings on the back cover as well (E for everyone, T for Teen, OT for older teen, M for mature, etc). The REALLY terrible ones will probably be shrinkwrapped.
    !

This is one of my all-time favorites: it’s appropriate for all ages and is very amusing.

Avoid but this site has what to watch for

Honestly, most of them are highly inappropriate. The best way is to look at the title, bring up a new window and use wikipedia or just google it and see what you find about it. Then if it passes inspection order it and look at it first – if it is terrible you can try to return it.

  4. I highly disagree with the person who says that most are highly inappropriate. Only a small percentage of japanese manga is “highly inappropriate” These would be hentai titles.

Other than that It depends on how ancient your kids are. The manga aimed at teenagers, does go into some thoughts that younger kids may not get, but other than that it’s not that terrible. Shonen is manga aimed at ******* and teen boys. It’s action packed so there may be a small bit of blood here and there, but not much. If blood is a serious issue avoid the following Blood+, Trinity Blood, Hellsing… It’s not that they’re terrible, but as vampire manga they’ll have a bit more blood.

About Naruto mentioned below: It’s a shonen manga about ninja. Yes there’s a excellent bit of action. But it’s not gory. There’s blood yes of course cuz there’s a lot of fighting. It has excellent character development. More than a lot of other shonen.

Shojo is ******* and teen girl manga. Typically these ones are high school tales, not graphic, etc.

    Hope that helps.

You really can’t tell which ones are not okay by just looking at the title or the rating.

One manga I read, Naruto (I know, I know) is rated either for children over 10 or teen. That series has quite a bit of blood in it, and some minor language.

You’ll need to look in a book store and flip through a couple of them to see what they’re about.

^^ it’s really very simple, and i truely disagree with the person who says that manga is ‘highly inappropriate’ well, how ancient are your children? i suggest that you avoid (for now) some of the following titles(in the shonen genre …these are excellent series, a bit bloody for kids (ages 12 or 11they can read …may be a bit gorey ^^eheh flip through the titles , and see for yourself if you approve)

Hellsing(lots of blood, gore, and language, suggest you avoid it until they are a bit older(12 and up i suggest although i highly loved it anyways moveing on)
    Hellsing : ultimate
    Claymore
    Trinity Blood
Death Note(lots of killings and blood ^^eheh)
    Flame of Recca

these title above are a few that are a bit gorey and may contain language (suggest them for later)

some titles are hentai, the rating will be mature or OT(older teen) (hentai, seinen these are pornagraphic)

shojo, well (if your child is a girl… i suggest wait untill she’s 12 and up for shojo titles)

and you may as well go and flip through a couple of series at a bookstore, it may seem that the 1st volume does not have **** or such material, but later volumes might, be sure to look at the age rating as well !! i hope that helps you, ^^ oh and i suggest wait later for anime ^^ hope that helps you!
