Going to buy books as gifts for kids in germany: girls (3 and 10) and a boy (8) one book each. Any ideas?
Bycelia u questioned:
They are english living in Germany so therefore may not have read all of the new releases. No Harry Potter or Dr Seuss please. I also live in the UK and when I previously questioned this question I got many answers from the US and the books are unavailable here! For the boy maybe something similar to Horrid Henry. Something girly for the small one… but no angelina ballerina or something she is sure to have read. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME… MANY THANKS!!!!!

The right confessions of Charlotte Doyle
Bloomablility
Ella Enchanted (so much better than movie)
The Wanderer
My 3 yr ancient likes anything thats goofy (not the character) and cute, theres one called “Goodnight, Moon” that she absolutely likes. I have also read to my lils the Junie B., series by Barbara Park (I reckon thats her name). The Chronicles of Narnia were excellent, but again, probally spread like wildfire over there too. The Boxcar Children by Gertrud Chandler Warner (I reckon thats the author) were a huge hit when I was a kid. The Beverly Cleary books are a excellent selection. I would do something like “Call of the Wild” by Jack London for the boy. I don’t know that maybe a small to wordy for him. You could always go to a book store and look around the childrens section to get thoughts of what looks excellent.
For the 3 year ancient small girl:
“A Mama for Owen”
by Marion Dane Bauer, John Butler (Illustrator)
The subject of this sweet book is arguably the most celebrated African baby hippo in history. At least, no other hippopotamus to our knowledge has been the subject of not one but three books. The tale starts on a sad note. Pudgy Owen lost his mother in the Fantastic Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004. His entire world washed out, our orphan hippo searched for a substitute mother and found one, but improbably, in an ancient giant tortoise. As the world marveled, the unlikely pair bonded, playing together and forming what appears to be a deep friendship. A touching tale every child can appreciate.
For the 10 year ancient girl:
Sandry’s Book (Circle of Magic Series #1)
by Tamora Pierce
Four young misfits find themselves living in a strictly disciplined temple community where they become friends while also learning to do crafts and to use their powers, especially magic.
For 8 year ancient boy:
Time Cat
by Lloyd Alexander
Jason and his magic cat Gareth travel through time to visit countries all over the world during different periods of history.
