lol, i get mine at B&N, walmart, or borders. I also only buy when i have a coupon. I but don’t like used books because i like everything new so i can keep it that way….

yeah it’s called a library where you can borrow them for free. If you’re looking for books as gifts sign up to get e-mails from borders and they’ll send you coupons.but yeah books are expensive, and you only read them once, so there’s not much point in buying them. oh yeah textbooks are insane. Buy them used online.

I guess I am cheap too

I always buy the kids’ books from thrift stores (unless its one that I REALLY want but can’t find there). Our local thrift store is pretty nice, all kids books are like 50 cents each and then when you buy 4 you get two free- awesome!

I also found my son some Janie & Jack clothes there recently for like $2 a piece- a fantastic deal!

Wow! I wished I could find books that cheap!! I am all for books and my eight year ancient son has tons of them! I am seven months pregnant and my baby has all kinds, too and he isn’t even born yet! lol..

I just go to book stores and go down the sale isle. Sometimes they have like $15-20 books for about $6-10. I like getting them that cheap! My son was in Kindergarten and they tested him and he was doing fourth grade reading.. He is so smart and I am so proud of him!

EDIT: Sometimes our local library sells books really cheap and they are new and in fantastic shape. They do that when they have too many of them. If your local library doesn’t do that, go to your largest town’s library when you are shopping in that town and check theirs out or call and question if they do and when they do it.

Walmart has pretty cheap books, too.. But you might reckon $3 is too high..

EDIT AGAIN:::: Tamara, what kind of books do you pay $50 for? I pay up to $20-25 for them.. They would have to be made out of gold for me to pay that much for them!! I thumbs up’ed you by the way… lol. I never thumbs down people on here unless they are stupid.. I am just wondering where you pay that much for a book!!

And I thought all libraries charges overdue fees, that is why you have to take them back on time.. lol.

thrift stores, dollar stores, library sales, yard sales. I did pay retail for my special edition series of Narnia and Harry POtter, though. But he doesn’t get to read those, I have to hold and read them to him.

I always buy my kids books at local thrift stores. Excellent will and salvation army are a bit over priced in my opinion you have to find those small thrift stores that are not chains. And of course during garage sale season I stock up on books because you can never beat a garage sale priced book they are always under 50cents.

my son gets a free book per month through the imagination library as well, its a fantastic program and it lasts from birth until 5 years ancient.i also do thrift stores and yard sales,and such. i do buy him his excellent books as well though, i bought him a disney book with a LOT of different tales in it, it was $25 dollars,but it was worth it as it had all the books in it i would have bought individually in one collection, its not simple to find cheap books, hand me downs are excellent, as other kids of friends and family outgrow theirs they can hand them down to your child. sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and spend the cash though, it really benefits your child to read to them, but i also **** spending an arm and a leg to do it.

Yup. You’re pretty cheap. If you can get kiddie books for a dollar or two, you’re doing fantastic!

Used book stores are excellent, and thrift shops. yeah. I got a lot at yard sales, and hand-me-downs, too, which are fantastic, cause you want some that your kids can ruin!

RENTING from the library? They are FREE! Just take the kids and let them browse for an hour or so! Some of my most wonderful memories from my OWN childhood!

Hey! My son is now 10. His books cost around $25! Yeah, we pay it. Cause now, we know that he will take excellent care of them, and read them over and over. Cause we let him have many when he was small. He is VORACIOUS! Reads ALL THE TIME!!! And still finds time to watch stupid tv, and play soccer, etc.

If you want a bunch that you can just let them tear up, go to a thrift shop…Salvation Army, Goodwill, local ones, there are bunches in huge cities. Just look in the phone book under “thrift shops/stores”.

Only spend huge bucks on the ones you really care about. The ones they really like…My son’s favorite is called “Roxaboxen”. Excellent picture books, Quality, award winners, collections that are vital to you…I had nearly all of the Boynton books, cause she is from the area where I went to University, and I was always a fan. Eric Carle, fantastic collections of tales, Where the Wild Things Are, books like that…classics.
