The trouble with most Bible believers is that they don't want to think. They want to believe in something, but when it comes to the Bible they are taught to believe that the words are the words of God. What they don't think about is that even in the Bible it says that Man is fallible(able to make mistakes) and the Bible was written by Men. For some reason I cannot fathom, that reasoning never occurs to them. Also, there is the section where Moses is conversing with God while he is making the Ten Commandments and God says 'thou shalt have no other Gods before me'. To me, that means there are still lesser gods that one can believe in for little things.

how it seems is not important, what it means is important.
example : Do not kill. - this may sound childish but it does mean a lot and is a good basis for a society to live by.

You don't have to believe what is in the Bible to realize that it does not sound like a children's book of fiction. Anyway, there are people who believe but who do not take everything literally.
Now, you say that it is like children's literature and "badly written". Maybe you have not read a very good translation.
What do you think of this, for instance (King James version):

The Song of songs, which is Solomon's.
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth:
for thy love is better than wine.
Because of the savor of thy good ointments
thy name is as ointment poured forth,
therefore do the virgins love thee.
Draw me, we will run after thee:
the King hath brought me into his chambers:
we will be glad and rejoice in thee,
we will remember thy love more than wine:
the upright love thee.
I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem,
        as the tents of Kedar,
as the curtains of Solomon.
Look not upon me, because I am black,
because the sun hath looked upon me:
my mother's children were angry with me;
they made me the keeper of the vineyards;
but mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest,
where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon:
for why should I be as one that turneth aside
by the flocks of thy companions?
If thou know not, O thou fairest among women,
go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock,
and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

You don’t have to believe what is in the Bible to realize that it does not sound like a children’s book of fiction. Maybe you have not read a very excellent translation.
What do you reckon of this, for instance (King James version):

let's say BIBLE = brief information before living earth.
Nobody ever live long enough to witness the creation from beginning.
I come from Indonesia. Our church ministry once went to remote places, where there are still shaman and witch, who use black magic to disturb the ministries works. The witch can fly in the air, another can crawl on the wall. It's a fight in faith. Another told story how a boy with unbalanced feet, grew the crooked feet at that moment and make both feet balanced.
Maybe you should join ministries works to witness that nowadays, the unbelievable things are still occur.
I find the website submitted by bend helpful.

great question. well, i know that as a Christian I believe some crazy things. I'm ok with that. in a time when some folks believe we've been dropped on this planet by martians, believing a fella was swallowed by a whale or a huge flood knocked out all life on the planet doesn't seem that crazy in comparison. I guess the bottom line for me is do I believe Jesus was who He said He was. If I do believe that then the rest will fall in line behind it. Not overnight mind you, but over time as I learn more about God. And as a previous answerer wrote, there indeed is a lot of scholarship in the Bible. You simply need to spend time in it.

Just curious... How much of the Bible have you actually read? How much background research have you read about the Bible? Once I know that, I could better answer your question.

Edit: Bible stories which involve overexaggerated events always have a teaching purpose. It comes from oral storytelling and passing it down by word of mouth. What stories from the Bible do you remember the most? It seems like you can easily recall ones with exaggerated events. These stories were around eons before they were ever written - passed down through generations. If Moses is parting the Red Sea, it's about God empowering him to help out an enslaved people. You have to look at the reasons and the lessons behind the story. In those days, storytelling wasn't about accurate journalism.

The Bible is also filled with poetry, history and letters. It has an incredibly fascinating background if you study it further. Try reading Psalms and Proverbs, James, and 1Corinthians. Then see what you think.

Hi, thanks for asking...

God becoming man and dying for people who don't deserve it because He loves them? Doesn't sound all that ridiculous to me.

There's a ton of scholarship on the Bible... and I mean real scholarship that makes real sense. If you're interested, email me and I'll send you a link.

Or, actually, here's a link. Email me if you want more.

May God bless you.
